School Health Advisors

School nurses offer individual and group support to school age children and parents about physical and emotional well being, including addressing issues such as behaviour, relationships, sex education, substance abuse. They offer support to teachers on the Personal Social Health Education curriculum.
Mental Health

Mental Health services for children and adolescents are provided by the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Mental Health NHS Trust through the Cambridgeshire Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMH). They run a number of specialist clinics and community services for 5-17 year olds and their families around issues such as
• mood and anxiety disorders
• self-harm
• eating disorders
• substance misuse where there are mental health issues
• Attention Deficity Hyperactivity Disorder
• Acute cases of school refusal.
Referrals can be made to the service by GPs, other health professionals and Education and Social Care Services staff. All families are offered an initial assessment, following which it will be agreed what treatments would be best. There is more information on the website at www.cambsmentalhealthinfo.nhs.uk.
There is also a national parents information helpline – 0800 018 2138 – run by Young Minds, for people concerned about children or young people with behavioural problems, depression, self-injury or other mental health issues.
Sexual Health

Most forms of contraception are available through your GP who will also be able to give you advice on your sexual health. General information can be found at NHS web site www.playingsafely.co.uk
The following are specialist services designed for young people:

Drop-in clinic on Mondays between 12 and 6pm – no need to make an appointment. Sexual Health Advice Centre for teenagers which offers sexual health checks, pregnancy testing and contraception.

Drop-in clinic held Saturdays from 12.30pm to 1.30pm – no need to make an appointment. A confidential free service for all 13 to 19 year olds, offering advice on any sexual health concern.
