Swift and Easy Referral
Health | Disability | Family Support |
The Locality team supports children and young people in schools and colleges. When teachers identify a child or young person that is struggling they can make contact with them for additional support from the Locality team. The team will meet regularly with teachers so that together they can identify needs at an early stage, and act in co-ordination.
Parents or Teachers who are worried about a child’s behaviour in school and at home may want to contact a Parent Support Adviser, who can support parents and children to get the very best from school by providing support, advice and information. They will help with any worries about a child’s education, behaviour or attendance, and provide support on how best to deal with it.
For older children/young people, Connexions Advisers can help with choices on making plans for the future. If there are personal issues that are barriers to their success at school or beyond, Connexions can provide Personal Advisers to support them and help deal with their problems.
Youth Workers encourage young people to participate in positive activities either in schools or after school in the community. They can achieve awards in their chosen activities which often helps to improve self-confidence and sense of their own worth.
If there is a problem with children accessing their lessons positively it may be that they are not attending regularly, so we may ask an Education Welfare Officer to help improve attendance. If behaviour in class and/or problems with learning are problems, then referral would be made to an In School Support Teacher (in Secondary Schools) or to an Access to Learning Teacher (in Primary Schools).
For more complex problems, referral can be made to our partners for instance in Health, School Nurses, Social Care or the many voluntary groups which exist in Cambridge.
How to make contact: Parents who would like to access any of the services outlined above should contact their school in the first instance.
