Support for Families

Services for Young People | Useful Leaflets |

Information sessions for parents are provided by their school or available to parents from a group of schools. We are also in the process of developing a team of staff based around the new Parent Support Advisors and these will be accessed through your child’s school.

We aim to build positive partnerships with parents to support their children’s development and learning by either working with individuals or by providing support in groups. Many of our schools also successfully
offer ‘Keeping Up With the Children’ courses and other opportunities for families to learn together, run by the Family Learning team.

Multi Cultural Services

The Race Equality and Diversity Service works in partnership with schools and parents to enable mainstream education services to meet the needs of children from all minority groups. You can get more information by phoning (01480 375584), email creds@cambridgeshire.gov.uk or by visiting the website – www.cambridgeshire.gov.uk/education/parents/race

Children with Special Educational Needs

A very wide network of support services is in place for helping parents and carers meet the educational needs of children who have special needs. These include:

- pre-school, primary and education support services
- visual impairment and hearing services
- educational psychology service
- student assessment service.

The best place to start is probably the Parent Partnership Service which provides information, advice, support and guidance to parents and carers of children with special educational needs. They can also arrange access to an Independent Parental Supporter for parents and carers who would like one. You can contact the Service at Box ELH1201, Castle Court, Castle Hill, Cambridge CB3 0AP, phone 01223 718154, email Sharon.Camilletti@cambridgeshire.gov.uk

Family Learning

Family Learning includes activities that raise the attainment and achievement of adults, build the confidence of family members of all ages and promote lifelong learning for the whole family. It can also provide opportunities for adults to support children’s learning and help involve them in their children’s education.

For more information about what is planned in your area please contact the Family Learning Administrator on 01223 712037 or the Family Learning Manager on 01480 810020 or email: family.learning@cambridgeshire.gov.uk.
